Key Info. for Parents to Read Before Children Attend Forest School

Please read through this information before completing your parental consent on parent pay.  

What do you need to wear for Forest School?

Dressing appropriately is key to enjoying Forest School in all weather conditions. Here's what your child needs:

For cold weather:

  • Thermal layer (t-shirt and leggings)
  • Long-sleeved top
  • Warm trousers
  • Jumper or fleece
  • Warm coat
  • Gloves (waterproof if possible)
  • Hat
  • Sturdy waterproof boots or wellingtons (with extra socks)

For warm weather:

  • Light long-sleeved top
  • Light long trousers
  • Sturdy shoes with good grip (no sandals)
  • Sun-hat

School provides waterproof trousers for all children and coats for reception children. These go over regular clothes but aren't designed for warmth. Always pack a change of clothes, school uniform, and shoes in a separate bag. Label everything clearly!

What do you do at Forest School?

At Forest School, children engage in a variety of exciting activities that promote learning, creativity, and connection with nature. These might include:

  • Building dens and shelters
  • Exploring and identifying local flora and fauna
  • Learning to use tools safely (like whittling sticks)
  • Creating nature art
  • Playing team-building games
  • Practising fire-lighting skills (under close supervision)
  • Cooking simple meals outdoors
  • Storytelling and imaginative play
  • Climbing trees and developing physical skills

Activities are often child-led, allowing kids to follow their interests while developing confidence and problem-solving abilities.

What do we eat and drink at forest school?

At our forest school, we offer a variety of delicious and comforting snacks and drinks to keep children energised and warm during their outdoor adventures. Here's what you can expect:

Snacks and Treats

  • A selection of biscuits
  • Fresh fruit
  • Vegan s'mores (toasted over the campfire)
  • Toasted crumpets

Warm Drinks

  • Hot chocolate
  • Warm squash (fruit cordial)

Allergen Information

We take food allergies very seriously and strive to accommodate all children's dietary needs:

  • We do our best to find alternative options for children with allergies.
  • None of the food we serve, to a child with allergies, would contain allergens directly.
  • However, some food labels may state that the item was produced in a facility that also processes allergens.
  • If your child cannot consume foods made in facilities that process allergens, please inform us immediately.

Important Note for Parents

If your child has severe allergies or cannot consume foods produced in facilities that may have allergen cross-contamination, please let us know in advance. This will help us ensure we can provide safe and enjoyable alternatives for your child during forest school sessions.
