Last Friday’s Forest School Adventure

Last Friday, our Reception class had an incredible time at Forest School! The morning was filled with excitement and learning as the children worked diligently to master the basic overhand knot using our knot tying frames. Their focus and perseverance were truly impressive, and it was wonderful to see them support each other in their efforts.

As we approach our final session this Friday, the children are also busy remembering the fire circle rules. This will be crucial for toasting their own marshmallows and making delicious s’mores—a perfect way to wrap up our first block of Forest School.

The dry weather allowed for endless imaginative play and collaboration. The children explored the sandpit, crafting the perfect mix for sandcastles by adding just the right amount of water. Others created bird feeders, mixed concoctions in the mud kitchen, built elaborate dens, and engaged in imaginative games filled with adventures, roles, and animals.

Some children chose to make flags using fabric, sticks, strings, and pens, while others crafted seed balls and used tools like bill hooks and mallets to split wood. Hand lenses  were used to examine natural objects closely, and some children discovered worms. The dead hedge was expanded, and loose parts were transformed into creative masterpieces. Giant bubbles floated through the air, and wildflower seed balls were crafted with care.

This session was a testament to the children’s resilience, creativity, and cooperation. They not only had fun but also kept themselves and others safe throughout. We’re looking forward to our final session this Friday, where we’ll enjoy s’mores and celebrate the end of our first Forest School block. Thank you to all the children for their hard work and enthusiasm.
