Eco-Council Plants Seeds for a Greener Future!

What a busy and exciting week it has been for Abbey Primary School's Eco-Council! Our young environmental champions have been hard at work, making our school grounds even greener and more sustainable
On Wednesday, with the help of Mr. Edwards and Mr. Smith, the Eco-Council successfully planted mini-orchards on both the infant and junior school sites. Thanks to a successful bid for five orchard trees from Young Tree Champions and additional trees purchased by the Friends of Abbey, we now have a wonderful variety of apple, cherry, pear, plum, and crab apple trees. We're looking forward to eating and cooking with produce from our very own mini-orchard in a few years time.
The Eco-Council's green thumbs didn't stop there! On Friday, they ventured to the forest school site with Mrs. K to check on the saplings planted last year. They're also dedicating another afternoon (Thursday 12th) to plant the second layer of the double-layered hedge using native saplings.
The children were also impressed by the reception class’s dead hedge, understanding how such a project can boost biodiversity and create essential habitats. These activities are great ways to promote positive environmental messages and get the whole school involved in creating a cleaner, greener space. We can’t wait to see these projects grow and flourish, contributing to a more sustainable future for our school and community!
