Subject Specific Vocabulary - Spring
Assist your child in using and understanding the vocabulary they will come across in our non-core subjects this term. To view the lists and definitions, click on the link below.
This term our topic is : Australia
Through this topic we will be linking our Geography, Science, History, Art, Design and Technology.
This topic is all about Australia, where it is in the world and comparing it to the UK and our local area. We shall look at living things and their habitats, including both plants and animals. Children will be looking at the artist Georges Seurat and his skill of Pointillism, leading on them creating their own piece in his style. We also look forward to inviting parents into school for a sewing project where children will be making a puppet using their sewing skills.
During this term, the children will be given the opportunity to experience, using their senses, some Australian animals through an in -school animal visit.

We are aware that there are lots of routines to remember, so a few of those which we feel are useful are detailed below:
PE
Each class will have a P.E session each week:
2S – Monday
2G – Tuesday
2J – Friday
Please ensure that your child has a named PE kit in school (white t-shirt, blue shorts and black pumps). We ask that hair is tied back and earrings are not worn on your child’s PE days.
Spellings
Spellings are attached at the bottom of the page
Spellings will be given out to the children for the whole half term. They will be tested on Fridays. We will be sending home the children's spelling tests so you can continue to work on any mistakes with your child. You will find the spellings attached to this page.
Children will be taught different spelling patterns and rules within Phonics and English lessons. It would be great if you could help your children with these spellings throughout the year. You can download these words below in the High Frequency Words and Common Exception Words documents. These are the words the children are expected to read and spell correctly by the end of year 2. You will also find the end of Key Stage requirements in the National Curriculum.
Children will also be able to practice their spellings at home using Spelling Frame. They will have a login and password in their reading journal. There are lots of fun games to play, to make the task of learning these spellings a little more fun. Please help your child login and enjoy the games online.
Homework
Children will receive E-learning for their homework. This will be on Education City and Purple Mash. The children can also use Times Table Rock Stars and Numbots at home too, along with Spelling Frame.
We expect the children to practise their times tables (2,5 and 10), learn their spellings and read every night.
Access TimesTable Rockstars here
